The Hajj rite schedule

  1. 8 Dhul Hijjah · from sunrisemina
    Yawm al-Tarwiyah — depart for Mina
    After re-entering ihram in Makkah, depart for Mina. Pray the five prayers in Mina at their proper times, shortened.
  2. 9 Dhul Hijjah · until sunrisemina
    Pre-dawn in Mina
    Pray Fajr in Mina before departing.
  3. 9 Dhul Hijjah · from sunrise · until zawalarafat
    Travel from Mina to Arafat
    After sunrise, depart Mina for Arafat. Arrive before zawal (noon).
  4. 9 Dhul Hijjah · from zawal · until maghribarafat
    Wuqūf at Arafah — THE pillar of Hajj
    Stand on Arafat from zawal until sunset. Do not leave the boundary before maghrib. Make du'a, dhikr, weep, beg forgiveness.
  5. 9 Dhul Hijjah · from maghribmuzdalifah
    Depart Arafat for Muzdalifah
    After sunset, depart for Muzdalifah. Combine Maghrib + Isha at the time of Isha there.
  6. 10 Dhul Hijjah · until fajrmuzdalifah
    Mabīt at Muzdalifah
    Sleep at Muzdalifah. Pray Fajr early.
  7. 10 Dhul Hijjah · from fajr · until sunrisemuzdalifah
    Mash'ar al-Haram du'a, then depart for Mina
    Make extensive du'a at Mash'ar al-Haram after Fajr; depart for Mina just before sunrise.

    Jamrat al-ʿAqabah, sacrifice, halq, Tawaf al-Ifadah
    Stone Jamrat al-ʿAqabah (7 pebbles). Then hady, halq, Tawaf al-Ifadah (in Makkah), saʿi if not done.

    Return to Mina for the first night of Tashreeq
  10. 11 Dhul Hijjahmina
    Mabīt in Mina; stone all 3 Jamarat after zawal
    After zawal, stone Jamrat al-Sughra → al-Wusta → al-ʿAqabah (7 pebbles each, du'a after the first two).
  11. 12 Dhul Hijjahmina
    Mabīt + stone all 3 Jamarat. Nafr Awwal possible if you leave Mina before sunset
  12. 13 Dhul Hijjahmina
    Nafr Thānī — stone all 3 Jamarat after zawal, then depart

    منى

    The valley east of Makkah, ~5 km from the Ka'bah. Site of the Tarwiyah camp (8 Dhul Hijjah), the Jamarat stoning (10–13 Dhul Hijjah), and the Tashreeq mabit.

  • Arafat
    عرفات

    The plain of Arafat, ~20 km southeast of Makkah. The wuquf here on the afternoon of 9 Dhul Hijjah is the greatest pillar of Hajj. "Hajj is Arafah" (Tirmidhi 889). The real boundary is irregular and is marked on the ground with yellow signs — always verify visually.

  • Muzdalifah

    The open plain between Arafat and Mina. Mabit on the night of 10 Dhul Hijjah; pilgrims collect pebbles for the Jamarat and pray Maghrib + Isha combined.

    The largest of the three Jamarat, closest to Makkah. Stoned with 7 pebbles on the morning of 10 Dhul Hijjah, then again with all three on 11–13.
